SCRIPTURE: And he put his hand on the wall of the city, and laid siege to it. (2 Kings 25:4)
THE ENTREPRENEUR’S REFLECTION
A successful business is a castle, and you must build a competitive moat to defend it from siege. Your moat is what makes your business difficult, expensive, or impossible for a competitor to copy. Your moat is not just your product; it is your defensibility. Moats include proprietary technology, powerful network effects (value increases with every new user), regulatory advantage, or extreme brand loyalty. If your only competitive edge is “lower price,” you have no moat. You must put your hand on the wall today and identify the single greatest barrier you are erecting against future rivals.
PRAYER / CONFESSION
Father, I ask for the strategic wisdom to build lasting defensibility. I pray for the insight to create a moat around my enterprise that frustrates and repels competition. Help me to focus my efforts on creating barriers to entry that guarantee my long-term security and market dominance. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
THE EXECUTION PROTOCOL
Analyze Your Moat: Do you have a moat? (No: price/service. Yes: Proprietary system/deep brand loyalty/network effect).
Strengthen the Moat: Identify one activity you can do this month to deepen the moat (e.g., File for a trademark, start a client loyalty program, or codify a new unique methodology).
The Market Test: Find the easiest-to-copy element of your business and dedicate time to making it 50% harder to replicate.
